UPON A TIME, there was a beautiful dogs named Joshua. He was
gentle, loving and a well behaved young dog. He got along very well
with all the people he met and also got along very well with all the
dogs he met. He always tried to do everything he was told and to be
calm and obedient. He had lived in rescue since he was just a puppy
and dreamed of having a home of his own. He had a warm bed and plenty
to eat, but he wanted to be a "family" dog and have his own home.
Everyday he asked Foster Mother why no one came to see him. Everyday
Foster Mother explained to Joshua that very few people ever adopt
large, black dogs. This made Joshua very sad, but he never gave up
hope that his day would come. Many dogs and puppies came and went,
even a few cats and kittens, but still Joshua waited!
That's me, that's my story. I am sad that I don't have a home and
family and that no one ever comes to see me . Won't you just give me a
chance and at least come and see me. I would be a wonderful pet and a
great family member. I am gentle, sweet, loving, and brave. Please

Are you a kind, gentle, patient, caring person who would like to adopt
and save a wonderful dog? If so we may be a good match. The traits
that I described are the ones that foster mom says that I have only I
am not a person. I arrived in rescue when I was about 7 months old. I
was unable to tell the wonderful folks at rescue what I had endured
but they knew that it must have been something HORRIBLE because I was
extremely shy and afraid. I never showed any aggression, I just
cowered or ran and hid when anyone came near me. I was placed in a
foster home and over time I have learned to trust my foster family and
those who I see often. I am still shy and it takes me a while to
decide whether or not I want to trust someone and that is why I am on
the special needs page. Most people want a dog that immediately
runs up to them wagging their tail. My past experiences just wont let
me do that. After I know and trust you I will run to greet you and my
tail works just fine. Hopefully, there is someone out there who will
find it in their heart to work with me and let me evolve into the
wonderful dog that I know I can be. Please come see me soon.
Foster Mom’s Notes: Bethany is one of those dogs who
really gets to you, her eyes and face are sooo expressive. She has a
short, glossy, easy care coat and beautiful markings. A lady who lives
in New York City saw Bethany on the internet and fell in love with
her. I spent a lot of time with Bethany and her self confidence
improved. Unfortunately, after a while, I realized that the noise and
hustle and bustle of New York City would probably be too much for
Bethany. Sadly, because there are other foster dogs needing help
getting ready to be adopted Bethany has not received the continuing
one-on-one attention that she needs. Although Bethany is shy with
people until she gets to know them she gets along with dogs of all
sizes. During play time Bethany watches over the smaller and/or newer
foster dogs and makes sure that they don't wander too far into the
forest. She has such a wonderful nurturing disposition that I feel
that once she got to know her family that she would be an awesome
nanny.

begins. Never a dull moment with me! I am also a real lover and would

I was turned out of my home by some bad people and left on the streets
to starve, and I almost did! Abandonment is a terrible thing to do; I
would never do that to another. I was very thin when a kind lady found
me and took me to "Rescue". I don't ever want to left all alone again
on the streets with no place to go and nothing to eat. I have gained
all my weight back. I am happy, healthy, vibrant, and having fun with
all my friends at Ahimsa Rescue; however, I do need a nice "forever"
home of my own. I have a beautiful coat, and I am a gorgeous girl, a
real flower. I am sweet and loving. I could be your truly devoted,

the Rescue Angel heard about me and started to bring me food. She kept

lots of toys. I am discovering new things and having lots of fun
playing with my new friends at Ahimsa Rescue. I have blossomed into my

JUST LAST WEEK the Rescue Angel was helping balance the Tooth
Fairy's books. One of the Forest Elves ran into the room jumping and
shouting, "He's in trouble, a very special dog is in trouble, you must
help, you must help!" All the Rescue Angel had to hear was "A DOG IS
IN TROUBLE' and she was on her way.
The Forest Elf led the Rescue Angel to a terrible, terrible place deep
in the woods. In the middle of a small clearing there sat a horrible,
filthy rundown shack. There was dirt, junk and filth everywhere. It
was obvious that this terrible place had been inhabited by Ogres. It
had become so uninhabitable that even the Ogres could no longer live
there. The Ogres had left, but being Ogres and caring for nothing but
themselves, they had left two loving and gentle dogs to fend for
themselves. The dogs both had very brave and true hearts, so they had
stayed on, waiting for the Ogres to return. The dogs were trying to
keep everything safe and care for things, trusting that they had not
been abandoned. They stayed on and on, with no food, no clean water
and only the shelter of the filthy, smelly shack. These two dogs were
so faithful and true that they were even trying to take care of their
friend the duck. This particular duck had been intended for the Ogres
dinner, but had managed, somehow, to escape.
The Rescue Angel was furious, she took the first dog in her arms and
kissed his gentle head. "In honor of your love and devotion, I name
you Trusty." Unfortunately it was almost dark and the second dog and
the duck were afraid and ran away. "I will be back to help you." The
Rescue Angel called after them (and she will be!).
Well, that's my story. I am good dog Trusty, and I am very proud of my
new name. I guess from my story you can see that I will be a true
friend to you. I would really like to have a real home with humans
instead of Ogres. As soon as the Rescue Angel is able to find my
friend, and the duck, they will both be looking for real homes too. If

AFTER THE REPORTERS LEFT and the publicity died down...
mom decided to tell me the truth. I thought I was Little Bear, you
know, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I had been Little Bear as long
as I could remember. Mom said she and dad (Papa Bear) found me alone
in the forest as a baby and knew I would die if they left me there.
She said they took me home and tried to raise me as a proper bear, but
it just wasn't working. I never took to honey and sometimes I needed a
sweater. There was also the winter insomnia. What with all the
publicity and news coverage since Goldilocks' mom wanted me to hear it
from her, not some nosey reporter. And so the truth came out...
I'm a DOG! It was a shock, but it all made sense.
So with mom and dad's
blessing I packed up and headed off to Rescue to find a proper home
and live my life as a dog. Foster Mom says I make a much better
looking dog then I ever did a bear. My dog name is "Charlie", but I
still prefer "Little Bear". I am a very good dog and I have a sweet
nature, maybe from all that honey. I would really like to have a
proper home and learn some more "dog" stuff. In the meantime I am
working with Foster Mother and she says I just get better every day.
