"The greatest pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of
yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he
will make a fool of himself too."...Samuel ButlerIf dogs must ever be left outside, they would like nothing better than to be able to explore every nook and cranny of their yard. A 6-foot privacy fence is safest--it’s harder for them to escape and harder for people to hurt your pup. If a fence is out of your budget, attach a swivel hook to a running line that enables the dog to run back and forth without getting tangled. Never leave a choke collar on an unsupervised dog--dogs can strangle if the collar becomes snagged or they can hang themselves.
Maybe, someday, we will all see the day when companion animals lives are valued enough that they all end up in lifelong responsible homes, rather than dead by the side of the road or on the euthanasia room floor.
