As is often seen in shelters, humane organizations and rescues, a dog with special needs comes along and although it is impractical for the rescue or shelter to fund or provide what that dog needs, sometimes we just have to try. This page is where we showcase those very dogs. A special need could be a medical condition, old age, an attitude or personality problem or any number of situations that makes a dog either difficult to adopt or in some cases, unadoptable without our intervention. Read about our special needs dogs and if you can help in some way, please do as your heart leads. |

#989 - Caydee My name is Caydee. I am a dignified girl that found herself and her puppy needing new loving homes. It is sad for me to think that if only I had been given the heartworm preventative, I would not need to be treated for this infestation. However, the good news is that once I have been treated, I will be good as new! Please,
help Ahimsa Rescue Foundation pay for my treatment so I can live a
normal, healthy life.

#963 - George George was brought to Ahimsa Rescue after being found out in below freezing temperatures, unable to use his right back leg. This sweet dog is fortunate to have been discovered by a kind man and delivered to Ahimsa Rescue Foundation. After a visit to our veterinarian it was discovered that George had been shot from behind. The bullet went through his tail, breaking it, and into the back leg, shattering the bone into hundreds of tiny pieces. George's leg will have to be amputated along with his tail. George was fortunate that the bullet did not hit any vital organs. George's tail is extremely painful, and his back right leg simply dangles from his hip, unable to be used. UPDATE, January2, 2010: My leg had to be removed but my tail was saved. I'm feeling much better now.
The estimated veterinarian fees for George's needed medical care is approximately $600.00. Please, open your heart for this sweet, deserving boy.

#947 - Lady Lady came to Ahimsa Rescue with heartworms and needs treatment. What a shame that heartworms can easily be prevented and so often are not. this lethal parasitic infestation gradually kills dogs. With proper treatment, Lady has a second chance of a good life. This sweet dog deserves that chance.

Jackson is a wonderful 2 year old, 15 pound boy. Jackson had a very bad start, because he was abandoned on the streets. Since he didn't have a family taking proper care of him, he wasn't on heartworm preventative. Yea, he has heartworms. But, the good news is that he is to be treated for this horrible infestation and will be good a new once his treatment is finished. He is in a wonderful foster home that will take proper care of him and do all the things necessary during heartworm treatment. For now he is enjoying the luxuries of living in a real home. He walks on a leash beautifully and loves to go for car rides. He is very smart and is eager to please his humans, is very gentle and sweet natured, and gets along with other dogs. This delightful little boy will start heartworm treatment soon. If you are able to help with the cost of his treatment, please, make a donation by clicking on his PayPal button to the left.

Daisy was discovered after several animal cruelty/neglect reports were made to Ahimsa Rescue Foundation by concerned citizens. Ahimsa Rescue's animal cruelty investigator made a visit to Daisy and found her in a "dirt" pen without food. After speaking with Daisy's family it was agreed that Daisy would be turned over to Ahimsa Rescue Foundation. Remarkably, at this point Daisy has no serious medical issues other than having been starved. She had a good blood test and has good teeth. She is currently in foster care at Ahimsa Rescue Foundation where advise and council is received from an equine specialist for nutritional soundness and welfare. Daisy is gaining weight, feeling better, and enjoying a large lush pasture with 4 other horses at Ahimsa Rescue Foundation. As updates are available, they will be noted here and posted to Daisy's own webpage. July 2, 2009: Additional intake photos and info have been posted to Daisy's webpage. July 4, 2009: New photos are posted on Daisy's webpage. Go see what a difference 3 weeks has made! July 14, 2009: Daisy continues to improve. Check out her newest photos on her webpage. July 24, 2009: A couple new photos of Daisy have been posted. Visit her webpage to see how she continues to improve daily. August 28, 2009: There are a couple new photos and comments from Daisy's Foster Home on her webpage. December 2009: You should see Daisy now! It is through the dedication of those that have cared for her that she is now a beautiful Arabian horse, loved, protected, and living the life she should have from her beginnings. Check out Daisy's webpage for her current update and photo. We still ask that as you open your heart to Daisy, that you consider making a donation toward the outstanding costs incurred during Daisy's time of healing and recuperation.
Please, open your hearts to this wonderful girl as she recovers
from near starvation.
